This trimester's theme is Mexican Folk Art. In Mexico and now internationally, the Huichol people are known for their amazing bead work and yarn paintings. Like many American indigenous groups, they have a strong relationship with nature and through their art they express their innermost feelings inspired by nature.  For this project, students will get to be in contact with nature but also to see nature within themselves. In class we will read Huichol stories and folk tales that will guide deep conversations regarding who we are in relation to nature and why is it important to maintain and preserve.

Students will take walks to our canyon and learn about the animals that live around us. Students will study huichol animal sculptures and create sculptures of their own inspired by the traits of nature they see in themselves.
