We asked second grade students to bring their special or favorite toys. Students said goodbye to their toys and tucked them in to leave them for a whole weekend.

San Diego has one of the largest

refugee resettlement populations in

the country. Inspired by the

childhood stories of one of our own

classroom teachers and the recent 6

year old student letter to President

Obama about helping Syrian

refugees we thought this project

would be an authentic way to

connect students to the world

around us and continue to develop

their capacity for empathy and

compassion for others. Through

this project students will be

learning about ways we can provide

service to members of our

community who need our help.
